The draw has been completed ahead of the WTA Brisbane International 2025 which is due to take place between 29 December 2024 and 5 January 2025 and is a WTA 500 tournament with a stacked field.

Essentially aside from Jessica Pegula who withdrew due to injury, it is a who's who of players not at United Cup or starting their season later on in the pre Australian Open picture. World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka for instance begins over the next week.

The reigning back-to-back Australian Open champion will begin her quest for a hat-trick this month. She opens Brisbane as she faces off against Viktoriya Tomova or Renata Zarazua. Yulia Putintseva is the main seed lurking as she will face Magda Linette or McCartney Kessler.

Emma Navarro returns after her breakout year. She is second seed and is playing for the first time since Asia where she spurned a chance to get into the WTA Finals. Zheng Qinwen took her spot and rightfully the plaudits in reaching the final. The American faces Kimberly Birrell and sits in Dayana Yastremska's path.

Other top names involved include Daria Kasatkina as third seed, as well as Paula Badosa, Anna Kalinskaya and Mirra Andreeva. Most of whom have byes also featuring Jelena Ostapenko and Victoria Azarenka among others. Main first round ties include Veronika Kudermetova v Peyton Stearns for the right to play Kasatkina.

Mirra Andreeva is one of the top names kicking off her 2025 season in Brisbane.

The defending champion is Elena Rybakina who rightfully made a splash with a crushing win in the final over Sabalenka 12 months ago. But their paths have been very different since with Sabalenka ascending to the top of women's tennis and Rybakina's 2024 being blighted by injury and illness.

She has decided instead to play United Cup this time so won't defend her title in a similar move to Coco Gauff not playing Auckland. World No.1, Iga Swiatek also plays United Cup instead.
