Emma Raducanu despite not favouring clay as her best surface is on a real roll right now and she has eased ast the sixth seed at the
Internationaux de Strasbourg in
Daria Kasatkina.
Raducanu will now face Danielle Collins with a Quarter-Final meeting with Jessica Pegula on the line or potentially Anna Kalinskaya. The latter won through today against Caroline Dolehide and has a history of troubling Pegula.
It was a 6-1, 6-3 win for the Brit who comes off the back of a Last 16 spot at the Rome Open being defeated by Coco Gauff pretty easily 6-1, 6-2. She no doubt would've thought she had a point to prove especially given the rest of her tournament was pretty flawless.
She mooted entering into Strasbourg as a bit of a change of tact. Now working with Mark Petchey who's role will continue throughout the grass court season on more of a full time basis due to his lack of commitments, Raducanu has seen areas of her game vastly improve.
Petchey mixes his work with Raducanu with his work as a broadcaster and commentator and has often said that unless the pull was enough to take him away from Tennis Channel that he would continue. But Raducanu no doubt has shown faith in the mission so far by extending his deal alongside him until that point.
It seems to be working out too. Strasbourg being added shows a huge leap of faith as she often previously has taken weeks like this off but has decided that with an early exit she needs to continue that match sharpness.
Dealt a tough mission in Strasbourg, taking a wildcard meant she faced Kasatkina first up. But having beaten her last year on grass, Raducanu has the tools to win and also is higher on confidence.
Kasatkina is slowly falling away ironically after she changed nationalities to Australia with wins being hard to come by and going into the French Open that continues. While for Raducanu, it is now Danielle Collins.
Collins found her way past Sofia Kenin earlier today in a typical WTA mission. That being an easy first set, being hit back easily in the second to win easily in the third. She is defending final points so all pressure is on her. But it is very much sunshine as of right now in the Raducanu camp.
