Maria Sharapova admits tennis memorabilia is not on display in her house with those not knowing her from the sport knowing that she even picked up a tennis racquet and did it for a living to such success.
One such item which in particular she doesn't showcase is her Olympic Silver medal. She lost out in the Gold Medal match against Serena Williams at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and having only played in one Olympic Games during her career, it became a bitter pill to swallow not winning gold.
"It was the only Olympics that I competed in. I, of course, as an athlete, you want gold. I mean, I don't know. There's no other way to say it," Maria Sharapova said.
""Like in tennis, it's either the champion's trophy or it's as if you weren't there. But there was huge significance in that the feeling of being part of, like for a tennis player that plays so many events, it does almost take away the meaning of what the Olympics is because you're just constantly going from one event to another."
"And although the Majors are where you want to perform the best, the Olympics is at that level. But it's once in four years so you move on to the next one. I won that silver medal. And I think I had to fly somewhere in the U.S. to play another tournament. So it's such a quick, I know it sounds crazy. You don't have time."
But like alluded to, it came for tennis as a whole as she said that she moved on fairly quickly from the sport after she retired in 2020.
"No. If you come to my home, you wouldn't even know I played tennis," she concluded. "It is special, but you do move on very quickly. Just really quick.
