Eugenie Bouchard rekindled her habit of making bets with fans regarding the outcome of Super Bowl Sunday after a long break.
Back in 2017, the Canadian tweeted that she knew the Atlanta Falcons would defeat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. At the time of her tweet, the Falcons were leading 21-0 and their victory seemed like a foregone conclusion.
"I knew Atlanta would win btw," Bouchard had tweeted confidently.
A fan took advantage of the opportunity and asked Bouchard to go on a date with him if the Patriots won the match.
"If patriots win we go on a date?," he asked.
Given the unlikely nature of the scenario at the time, Eugenie Bouchard had replied in the affirmative. As it turned out, the Patriots launched an incredible comeback and won the championship in overtime, 34-28.
Bouchard did not revoke her acceptance of the bet and asked for the lucky fan's location, only to learn that he lived in Chicago but was attending school in Missouri.
In a surprising turn of events, Bouchard and fan John Goehrke actually met up and even attended the Super Bowl together in 2018. The Canadian has talked about how the pair remained in touch as friends.
Bouchard brought the custom back this year as she asked her fans to send in their bets while she watched the 2023 Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. This is the first time Bouchard has revived this particular tradition since 2018.
"Ready for your bets guys! I’m actually on the same couch as that time I agreed to a Super Bowl bet…," the Canadian wrote on Twitter.
