After having a breakout Grand Slam performance at the 2025
Wimbledon Championships, runner-up
Amanda Anisimova is hoping to carry the momentum into the
US Open.
The 23-year old stunned the tennis community by reaching the final at SW19 last weekend, defeating World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals. Anisimova faced Iga Swiatek in the final, and Polish star would record a 6-0 6-0 victory as the American succumbed to a case of nerves and poor form.
Anisimova hopes to delight home fans at Flushing Meadows
The New Jersey native has remained in good spirits after her devastating loss in London a few days ago. In an appearance on Good Morning America following the Wimbledon final, Anisimova shared her love for the US Open and admitted she hoped to replicate her SW19 performance in New York.
“It’s so surreal to be ranked seventh right now, it’s my career and what a quick turnaround for me after my comeback,” said Anisimova. “The US Open is my favourite tournament by far. It’s always super exciting to be playing there and I’m sure I will have the whole home crowd cheering for me over there.
“All my family is going to come and support me so I am just looking forward to it and I’m sure it’s going to be a great tournament and hopefully I can go far again."
The run to the Wimbledon final has propelled Anisimova to a new career-high on the WTA Rankings, as she leapfrogged several WTA stars to climb to World No.7. The American has had an impressive 2025 season, winning the biggest title of her career at the Qatar Open earlier this year. Anisimova is coming off a hiatus that saw her take time off after the death of her father, alongside some injuries that kept her away from the WTA Tour.
