The last week of February competition sees the ATP 500 Mexican Open positioned as the final preparatory stop for the Sunshine Double. The tournament will be held at Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco, marking its 33rd edition, to take place from February 23 to 28.
The tournament began as an ATP 250 event around 1993, and Thomas Muster established himself as king of the tournament by winning the first four editions consecutively. Since 2000, it has been an ATP 500 and has had historic champions, including 4-time winners David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal, as well as other iconic names such as Guga Kuerten, Carlos Moyá, Juan Martín Del Potro, and Dominic Thiem.
This year, the draw will be led by 2021 champion Alexander Zverev (No. 4) – who will be joined by three other top-10 players – Italian Lorenzo Musetti (No. 5), 2-time champion Alex de Minaur (No. 6), and Ben Shelton (No. 9). With four top-10 players in the draw, this will be the most competitive stop before the Sunshine Double begins – with Indian Wells and the Miami Open scheduled for March.
Other notable players include 2024 runner-up Casper Ruud (No. 13), 2025 runner-up Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (No. 13), 2014 champion Grigor Dimitrov (No. 41), and 2022 runner-up Cameron Norrie (No. 26).
The defending champion is Tomas Machac, who in 2025 overcame rivals such as Jakub Mensik, Learner Tien, and Brandon Nakashima on his way to the final, where he defeated Spaniard Davidovich Fokina – who suffered a second consecutive ATP final loss.
