The second week of the Aussie swing will feature the
Adelaide International, an exciting WTA 500 event in the week leading up to the start of the Australian Open, featuring four top-10 players and up to 14 players inside the top 25, all looking to build match rhythm before the year’s first Major.
While several players are preparing in Melbourne for the Happy Slam, Adelaide has put together a highly competitive draw, even for a tournament of its category. The favourites for the title will be
Jessica Pegula (No. 6),
Mirra Andreeva (No. 8), and
Madison Keys (No. 9), all aiming to build momentum ahead of the big challenge at the start of 2026.
Last year, Adelaide gave a glimpse of what was to come in Melbourne, with an all-American final between Pegula and Keys, resulting in Keys lifting the trophy - after defeating opponents such as Ostapenko, Kasatkina, and Samsonova along the way. Two weeks later, she extended her streak by winning the Australian Open, her first Major of the year.
Adelaide has often served as a precursor to Melbourne titles. Back in 2022, Ash Barty won consecutive titles in Adelaide and the Australian Open, and in 2023, Aryna Sabalenka completed the same feat. Could this year’s Adelaide champion also become a contender for the Aussie Open title?
In addition to the 2025 finalists – Pegula and Keys – the field includes Russian players Andreeva and Ekaterina Alexandrova, who will aim to justify her top-10 finish at the end of 2025. Several players are chasing that No. 10 spot, separated by only a few ranking points, including Belinda Bencic (No. 11), Linda Noskova (No. 12), and Clara Tauson (No. 14) – all of whom can be considered potential contenders in Adelaide, having posted solid results during last year’s early-season Aussie swing.
Young Canadians Victoria Mboko and Leylah Fernandez will also be names to watch, despite not securing a seeded spot. Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova received a wildcard, giving her the opportunity to gain points and recover ranking positions after time away due to injuries. Paula Badosa finds herself in a similar situation and will need victories to boost confidence ahead of her Australian Open campaign, having reached the semifinals in Adelaide a year ago.
UK tennis fans will be able to follow all the live action from Down Under on Sky Sports. Australian viewers can keep up with the events on beIN Sports, while fans in America closely following their top players can watch on the Tennis Channel.
