The only Grand Slam champion of the 2020 season, Sofia Kenin spoke about her hopes ahead of the 2020 US Open.
Sofia Kenin kicked-off her 2020 season in a perfect style back in January this year. She was unstoppable at the Australian Open and won her first Grand Slam title in the career. Now, after 7 months, players moved to Flushing Meadows for the 2nd Grand Slam tournament of the season -
US Open. The 21-years-old is motivated ahead of the US Open and during the media day, she said:
"I proved [in Australia] that I can get in deep, I can win a tournament. I hope it's going to help me," Kenin said. "Obviously, it's something that I obviously think about, I remember. It was such a great moment. It's something I'll never forget. Taking it into this week, I'm obviously going to use whatever I can from January, think about it, hopefully build up when I play here."
"Anything can happen on any given day," Kenin said. "I'm not going to obviously focus on winning the US Open because I got to take it one match at a time, like I did in Australia. Hopefully, I can do well here."
"I feel like as I was playing Australia, I just got more matches, I got more confidence. It started paying off, everything that I've done, all the hard work I've put in. Definitely fitness, obviously, has helped. I've been doing it during this whole quarantine and everything," admitted Kenin. "But the major thing is confidence for me."
