World number two Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka has revealed that she suffered a major injury scare in the recent past.
The 25-year-old had a brilliant start to the 2024 season where she won the Australian Open after beating China’s Zheng Qinwen in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
Sabalenka was recently quoted in a report where she revealed that she had suffered an ankle injury scare while taking part in the Indian Wells.
"It was bad in first seconds, but then slowly it was getting better and I felt like, okay, I'm ready to play,” she said. “But in that moment when they twisted a little bit, I thought, oh, God, what I did wrong? It's happening to me.
"But I was trying, this is just the proof that I was trying so hard to get to every ball and to put every ball back. Yeah, but now I feel okay. We'll see tomorrow. But I have a great team, and I'm pretty sure they will take care of it so for the next match I will be ready."
Sabalenka had a good start to her time at the Indian Wells where she defeated Peyton Stearns in the round of 64 with a score of 6-7, 6-2, 7-6. She will now face Britain’s Emma Raducanu in the round of 32 clash on Monday.
