After announcing her retirement last month, Anett Kontaveit returned to Wimbledon for the final time, although her court allocation.
The Estonian earlier announced that Wimbledon would be her final event, and fans filled the arena to see the former World No.2 in action. Kontaveit recorded a 6-4 6-4 win over Lucrezia Stefanini and delayed her retirement by one more match. However, the choice of court for her farewell tournament was the bigger story.
With all the rain delays haltering play this week, several matches had to be reshuffled. Fans had hoped Kontaveit would be moved from Court 6 to a bigger court, but her court allotment remained the same even after the rescheduling.
"I do hope to get a bigger court next time," said Kontaveit after her win. "I was not expecting to play on Centre Court or a huge court anyway. Yeah, it's their decision and nothing I can do about it. Yeah, just deal with whatever comes my way and try to do the best I can.
"I don't feel disappointed right now. I just won my match. So no negative emotions from me at the moment."
The Estonian will face 32nd seed Marie Bouzkova for a spot in the third round.
