Following an injury-plagued 2025 season that saw her miss significant time, tennis star
Paula Badosa penned a poignant message to her fans, stating she would not be competing again this year as she battles with more injuries.
The former World No.2 has struggled with injuries over the past 12 months, making sporadic appearances on the WTA Tour before being forced to miss more time as various injuries resurfaced. Badosa's last appearance this season was at the Wimbledon Championships, where she lost in the first round to Katie Boulter.
After taking more time off to deal with another injury setback, Badosa was forced to skip the entire North American hardcourt swing. This included the 2025 US Open, where Badosa reached the quarterfinals last year.
The Spaniard made every effort to return in time for the Asian swing, and made her return at the
China Open. After defeating Antonia Ruzic in the first round, Badosa was forced to retire when trailing Karolina 2-4 in their third round match.
An emotional Badosa bids farewell for the rest of the season
Badosa as visibly distraught as she shook hands with Muchova at the net. Although she made no mention of ending her season at her post-match conference, she shocked fans by posting a heartfelt open letter in her Instagram stories.
"There are times when I ask myself how I keep going through the toughest most painful moments,” Badosa wrote. “And the truth is that it’s in those exact moments that I discover the deepest strength inside me. Every setback hurts, but it also reminds me how badly I want to fight, how much I want to come back stronger.
"I wouldn’t be able to do this without the people who continue to believe in me. Your support carries me when things get heavy, and your faith gives me courage when doubt creeps in. There is truly no greater feeling than walking onto a tennis court and seeing you all there, standing behind me. That energy, that love. It’s something I can never thank you enough for."
The World No.18 was quick to state she was not retiring from tennis, but rather hoped to come back stronger in 2026.
“No matter how many obstacles come my way, I promise you this: I will keep fighting, I will keep pushing, and I will keep finding my way back," added Badosa.
