World number six
Ons Jabeur believes that WTA players
sacrifice a lot more than ATP players.
The 28-year-old is one of the most sought-after players in women’s tennis and will start this year’s
Wimbledon as one of the
favourites to go all the way.
While talking to
The Guardian, Jabeur expressed views that woman
players face numerous difficulties throughout their careers and they are hardly
acknowledged by the authorities as well as the fans.
“It’s crazy because some people are like: ‘I don’t need to
watch women’s tennis. It’s boring’, she said. “But how would you know?
Honestly, women make a lot more sacrifices than men. Unfortunately, if I want
to have a baby tomorrow I cannot as I am on tour. This is a huge sacrifice for
women.”
Jabeur will be hoping to go one better this time around at
Wimbledon after suffering a heartbreaking loss against Elena Rybakina in the
final last year.
Speaking about that defeat as well as the loss in the US
Open final last year, the Ksar Hellal-born stated that both results taught her ‘a
lot’.
“I learnt a lot [from those defeats],” she said. “Both
Wimbledon and the US Open were tough losses for me. But it always takes me
time. I won my first WTA tournament after losing a few finals.
"Maybe it will be
the same for a grand slam. I want to maintain a great level so I can maybe
dominate the WTA tour.”
