Iga Swiatek had a dissipating end to her Roland Garros but the Polish player is focusing on the future with the Olympic games as the main goal.
Iga Swiatek had a rough ending at the Roland Garros losing to Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals. The 2020 champion was hampered by a lower leg injury that did not allow her to play her game. It bothered her earlier in the event and she simply did not look as great as she did in 2020. After the match she said:
"Obviously I haven't played my best tennis, that's for sure. But I have to congratulate my opponent. Sakkari did a great job pushing on my right diagonal, which didn't work at all today. She has chosen the right tactic. I fought as hard as I could, but I couldn't get the level expressed in the last few days."
For Swiatek, the road ahead is clear as the Olympic Games in Tokyo are her goal. Before the Olympics there is Wimbledon but the Polish player is not expecting anything from the grass-court swing as she is unsure how she will do. Asked about it she said:
"It is true that the grass season has started, but I don't know how I will adapt to this surface. I don't have any expectations or any kind of pressure in view of Wimbledon."
She closed out the interview by saying:
"I have never been to Asia and I will have to adapt to the playing conditions as soon as possible. My next big goal is the Tokyo Olympics."
