Emma Raducanu optimistic for the 2025 seasonThe 2021
US Open champion had a solid year, managing to return to the top 60 despite constant injuries and a lengthy absence due to surgeries aimed at overcoming her physical issues.
Raducanu didn’t compete in many tournaments this season, playing only three WTA 1000 events and missing the French Open. She finished the year with a 21-13 record. Although she experienced minor injuries, her ranking and reliance on wild cards kept her out of some tournaments, along with her decision not to play in qualifiers when opportunities arose.
Raducanu confident after Billie Jean King Cup success
Nonetheless, 2024 seemed like a transitional year, and she’s aiming for a breakout season in 2025. With a higher ranking to comfortably enter major tournaments and some strong results behind her, Raducanu was a reliable asset for Great Britain in the
Billie Jean King Cup.
She won her two singles matches in April against France and went undefeated in three more singles matches during the Finals, helping her team reach the semifinals.
"Mentally, I feel like I am in a better place to compete now than I ever have been before since the US Open," she said. "It’s going to probably take me some tournaments to get up to speed, but once I do, I think I am in a better headspace to compete now."
Following Great Britain’s elimination, Raducanu shared her eagerness to return to training after a brief vacation. "I think traditionally you'd probably have a bit of a break and take a holiday or something, but I feel like I’ve had four, five weeks off tennis and I don’t really need any more time off," she explained. "If anything, I’m excited and just itching to get on the practice court, and of course, seeing some of my performances this week just incentivises me to do more work."
The former world No. 10 plans to start the 2025 season at the ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand, which begins on December 30.
