"In Madrid I realized I can play well on clay," says Petra Kvitova

3-time Madrid Open champion, Petra Kvitova will be one of the biggest favorites to win the title also in 2021 but it will be a very difficult task.
The experienced Czech player triumphed at the Madrid Open in 2011, 2015 and 2018. Now, Petra Kvitova will start the tournament with a match against another Czech, Marie Bouzkova. In the second round, she can face another Czech player Marketa Vondrousova or Angelique Kerber.
“It was my first tournament when I realized I can play well on clay. I think it was 2011, the season when I won Wimbledon and the WTA Finals. Of course, I won some tournaments before, but Madrid was the biggest I won that year”, the world No. 13 said.
“I think it really showed me that I can beat the best players in the world. It really gave me a lot experiences as well and confidence”, she admitted.
