Jessica Pegula made it to the final 8 players at Roland Garros after taking down Irina Begu and speaking after the match she underlined the mental battle.
It was a hard match for Pegula as she had a lot of issues finding that right balance and approach. She lost the opening set after making several dumb mistakes, especially in the opening service game where she squandered a 40-0 lead losing it. Speaking after the match she said:
"It was a mental battle for me to kind of figure out. 'Okay I haven't beaten her before so I need to figure it out today. I was a little bit frustrated because in the first game I was up 40-0 and then I got broken and I know she can serve pretty well so I was frustrated."
Pegula continued:
"It was just a lot of up and down. I was fighting a lot of mentally but I did a good job of staying focused and trying to figure out what I need to do to win the 2nd set. I've been really consistent over the years. Found my clay game and am deep in another grand slam"
