Czech Republic’s
Petra Kvitova has admitted that she was ‘destroyed’
in her fourth-round clash at
Wimbledon against Tunisia’s
Ons Jabeur.
The two-time Grand Slam winner was thrashed in her round of
16 fixture by the last year’s finalist in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-3
on Monday.
The result might not have been a surprising one considering Jabeur’s
impressive form in the competition.
However, the manner of the defeat would’ve surely surprised
a few, especially as the 2011 and 2014 Wimbledon winners just lost one set in the
competition before facing Jabeur in the fourth round.
While talking after the match, Kvitova admitted that she was
not up to the task in the fixture.
"I've been just destroyed,” she said. “That's how it is
and that's how I take it. It was a too-quick match. I was having a good grass
season, but still, you know, fighting here in Wimbledon.
"I didn't really put pressure
on me, to be honest. Maybe in the previous matches but not really today. It was
I felt like a 50/50 for today's match, and then it was pretty quickly the other
side. Didn't feel it today."
The Bílovec-born further stated that it was windy out there
and that she felt it was a bit ‘too much’ to handle.
"Yeah, I felt okay,” she said. “Yeah. I was there, but
I think that from the side it was pretty windy. I think when I was going for
it, it was just, you know, a little bit out too much."
