Ons Jabeur secured the
Charleston Open final by defeating
Amanda Anisimova in a superb match 2-6 6-1 6-4.
The Tunisian player has a lot of comfort in Charleston and it's showing in her play. Both last year and this year Jabeur has looked very good in this event and even when things go wrong she finds a way to overcome them. It's a trend that has followed her for a while now and it was missing in the earlier years of her career. Today things did not go that well initially.
Anisimova gave Jabeur a lot of trouble with her offensive style of play attacking her mercilessly. Jabeur did not have her first serve consistently and that gave her opponent a lot of chances on her 2nd serve and Anisimova feasted. She won 9 of 13 points to cruised to a 6-2 first set finish.
Things weren't much better serve-wise in the 2nd set but Jabeur played a lot better in rallies. She attacked and defend well forcing Anisimova into many mistakes. The American generally played worse and all of that combined contributed to Jabeur racing to a very stunning 6-1 2nd set win. The final set was a proper battle and it opened with a break for Anisimova.
That lead was until 3-3 but it was far from good for Anisimova. She had numerous chances to go up a double break and it would have been crucial if she did. Jabeur lost her serve at 3-3 once more to give Anisimova a 4-3 lead but broke back immediately to make it 4-4. She then won two more games to finish off the dramatic comeback win.
