Karolina Muchova's injury struggles continue as the World No.8 has had to withdraw already from the
Brisbane International, the opening tournament of the new season.
Muchova who couldn't play at the WTA Finals has had recent issues with her wrist. She seemingly has not recovered in time to start her season in the first week and this also sees Madison Keys also out of the tournament. It is a setback for the Roland Garros finalist after her best year on the tour ever and putting previous injury struggles behind her.
She played 51 matches in 2023 which was the most she has ever managed in a season. But after the US Open where she reached the semi-finals, she hasn't played. From one of her greatest runs backing up her clay court excellence, it was soon back down to earth with a bang.
Then missing Cancun after spending months trying to rehabilitate, many would've thought that Muchova's 2024 would start well but at least for now, she will spend it on the sidelines.
"I'm alive photo dump alert! Big thanks for all your messages! I took a little break to power up and focus on my wrist recovery, spent time with loved one and ofc kept up with training. Looks like bright tomorrows are ahead and can't wait to see you all in the stands again," said Muchova on her Instagram recently.
Keys is an interesting case as also coming off a superb season, the World No.12 has no reported injuries and recently played an exhibition against Linda Fruhvirtova. But is also out as Tamara Korpatsch and Diana Shnaider take their spots in the draw.
