Kenin suffers setback in comeback with Zanevska thrashing at Madrid Open

Sofia Kenin has had glimmers in her comeback but that came crashing down during Tuesday afternoon at the 2023 Madrid Open.

Kenin suffered a humbling thrashing against Maryna Zanevska who lost in all of her last five matches and was entering the clay-court swing in poor form but sealed a 6-0, 6-3 win over the former Australian Open champion.

It is the only WTA 1000 tournament where she has never managed to win a match and that continues. In only 30 minutes, she was down a set and a break.

She did pull back a few games but not enough to avoid a humbling from the Belgium, with Rome and Roland Garros now to come for the American.
