Kerber looks ahead to Wimbledon after Roland Garros exit: "It sounds much better for me"

For the fifth time in six years, Angelique Kerber is out at Roland Garros after losing out to qualifier, Anhelina Kalinina 6-2 6-4.

Kerber showed some battle towards the end coming from 0-5 down to force some late resistance but it was too late.

The Ukrainian who has been in great form on the ITF Circuit as of late and is on a 13-match winning streak not dropping a set in qualifying will now face Danielle Collins. A meeting with Serena Williams could follow in Round Three.

Speaking afterwards, the former World Number One said she did the best preparation she could but that now the focus will head to Wimbledon which she is looking forward to.

“She started well and had nothing to lose, while it took me too long to get into the contest,” Kerber said post match.

“I will try to learn from the match now because I played good the last few weeks and I had good matches.

“I did the best preparation I could do in the last few weeks on clay, but yeah, it’s fine, and now I’m looking forward to Wimbledon for the grass court season, and it sounds much better for me, so I’m happy that the next Grand Slam is on grass.”
