With another week that has passed, we got another update to the Race to Shenzen which is slowly heating up. The top 8 players in the race will move to Shenzen where they will contest the final WTA event of the year, the WTA Finals. Ashleigh Barty is still leading the field by a wide margin thanks to her consistent performances throughout the year as well as Wimbledon victory.
Barbora Krejcikova won the 2021 Prague Open last week which allowed her to jump up to number two in the race skipping over Sabalenka. The rest of the top 8 consists of Iga Swiatek who is number 4, Karolina Pliskova who is number 5, Naomi Osaka who is number 6, Garbine Muguruza who is number 7 and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova at number 8.
The closest players in pursuit of the top 8 are Ons Jabeur at 9, Coco Gauff at 10 who was forced to withdraw from the Olympics due to contracting COVID-19 and Sakkari at 11.
