Four players from TOP 30 of WTA Ranking will be fighting for two spots in the final at the 2020 Ladies Trophy in St. Petersburg.
The 6th seeded
Maria Sakkari will meet
Elena Rybakina in the first matchup of the afternoon in St. Petersburg. Sakkari plays in a stunning form in Russia when she defeated Diatchenko, Cornet and
the first-seeded Bencic. Rybakina avoided seeded players during the tournament as the Greek is the first seed she will meet.
In the second matchup of the night, home fans in St. Petersburg will have a lot to cheer for. The home star and Russian no. 1,
Ekaterina Alexandrova seems to be unstoppable during the 2020 season. Everything started with a
victory in Limoges at the end of the 2019 season.
Then, Alexandrova triumphed also in Shenzhen
when she defeated Elena Rybakina in the final. Petra
Kvitova was the only player who defeated the Russian during 2020 at the Australian Open. Then, Alexandrova also
helped her country in Fed Cup Qualifiers and now she is in a great form also in St. Petersburg.
However, she won't have an easy task in the semifinal. The Russian no.1 will be facing
Kiki Bertens. World no. 8 did not have an ideal beginning of the season, losing to Osaka in Brisbane and to Muguruza at the Australian Open. However, she
managed to win both matches in singles in Fed Cup Qualifiers and did not lose a set yet in St. Petersburg.
Bertens and Alexandrova did not meet yet on the WTA circuit and so it will be an interesting clash for both players. The evening will be finished by the semifinal match in doubles. Christian & Guarachi will meet Garcia & Konta. The winner will meet the first-seeded pair Aoyama & Shibahara in the final.
