The Berlin Ladies Open Round of 16 produced a major result as Alexandra Eala defeated Elena Rybakina 7-5, 6-4 in straight sets, while Madison Keys and Elina Svitolina also secured their places in the quarter-finals. Linda Noskova completed a routine win over Diane Parry to continue her efficient run through the draw.
Across the Berlin Ladies Open Round of 16, the results reinforced a clear separation between seeded control and lower-ranked breakthrough performances. Eala’s comeback win over the world No. 2 stands out as the defining outcome of the day, while Keys and Svitolina advanced through more structured straight-sets victories that preserved their positioning in the draw.

Eala overturns Rybakina after major first-set turnaround

Alexandra Eala def. Elena Rybakina 7-5, 6-4

Eala began the match under immediate pressure as Rybakina established early control through a break lead and strong baseline positioning, moving ahead 4-1 in the opening set. The world No. 2 dictated early exchanges with depth on return and forced Eala into extended defensive patterns on second serve.
The turning point came through Eala’s adjustment in return positioning and rally tolerance, which disrupted Rybakina’s service rhythm and reduced free points on serve. From 1-4 down, Eala won six of the next seven games, stabilising her service games and gradually taking control of baseline exchanges before closing the set 7-5.
In total, Eala won 65% of service points and converted 3 of 7 break-point opportunities, while Rybakina managed just 1 break from 4 chances. The second set was decided by a single early break in Eala’s favour, after which she consolidated effectively behind serve and prevented Rybakina from building sustained return pressure.
The 21-year-old now advances to the Berlin Ladies Open quarter-finals, where she will face Elina Svitolina. The win also lifts her four positions in the live rankings up to world No. 31, placing her just one step outside the top 30 after a breakthrough performance against the world No. 2.

Keys survives late swing to edge Muchova

Madison Keys def. Karolina Muchova 6-4, 7-5

Keys and Muchova were both strong on serve for large portions of the opening set, with minimal break opportunities and extended service holds defining the early pattern. A single inconsistent service game from Muchova proved decisive, as Keys converted her only break chance of the set and held serve to close it 6-4.
The second set again featured prolonged service stability, with neither player generating early separation. At 4-4, Keys broke to move within sight of victory and served for the match, but Muchova immediately responded with a break back to level at 5-5.
However, the momentum shift was short-lived as Muchova dropped serve again, allowing Keys to close the match 7-5 on her own delivery. Keys converted 3 of 4 break points and saved the only break point she faced, underlining efficiency in key moments. The American advances to face Jessica Pegula in the Berlin Ladies Open quarter-finals.

Svitolina controls baseline tempo against Lys

Elina Svitolina def. Eva Lys 6-3, 6-2

Svitolina advanced to the Berlin Ladies Open quarter-finals after a match defined by extended pressure sequences and repeated break-point resistance. The opening set began on relatively even terms, with both players holding through early service games before Svitolina established separation through improved return depth and rally control.
Lys applied consistent aggression in return phases, particularly targeting second serves and attempting to shorten points through early strike patterns. However, Svitolina absorbed the pressure in multiple service games, saving several break points across the match and preventing Lys from converting key opportunities during momentum shifts.
After the initial balance, Svitolina won four consecutive games to take control of the first set, closing it 6-3 through sustained baseline consistency. The second set followed a similar structure, with Lys again matching early games before Svitolina produced a decisive run of five consecutive games to break the contest open and complete the win 6-2.
Svitolina registered 8 aces in a strong serving performance that helped stabilise her service games under pressure. Despite facing several difficult moments, she maintained higher efficiency in key points, while Lys’s aggressive return strategy was not enough to convert break chances at decisive stages. The Ukrainian now moves into the quarter-finals, where she will face Alexandra Eala in a contrasting baseline matchup.

Noskova controls serve and closing run against Parry

Linda Noskova def. Diane Parry 6-2, 6-2

Noskova established early dominance through aggressive service patterns, breaking repeatedly in the opening set to take control of baseline exchanges. Parry struggled to sustain pressure on return, frequently falling behind in neutral rallies.
Noskova maintained a high service level throughout the match, winning up to 80% of service points and not facing a single break point. She also converted 4 of 9 break opportunities, consistently capitalising on Parry’s second-serve vulnerability.
After briefly losing an early lead in the second set, Noskova regained control and finished strongly, winning the last five games in a row to close out the match. The Czech’s consistency on serve and efficiency on return defined a routine straight-sets win, setting up a quarter-final clash with Paula Badosa in the Berlin Ladies Open.
