MATCH REPORT | 2024 China Open: Aryna Sabalenka set for showdown with Karolina Muchova after emphatic Keys win

Aryna Sabalenka will face Karolina Muchova again in the Quarter-Finals of the 2024 China Open in Beijing in a real titanic tussle between two players at the top of their games.

Sabalenka won earlier in the morning. She advanced to her 10th consecutive WTA Quarter-Final by defeating Madison Keys 6-4, 6-3 in the Last 16.

The reigning US Open champion has not lost since the Toronto Quarter-Finals in August and has been on a 15-match winning streak since that point. She also won 15 matches previously from 2020-2021 as she went from Ostrava at the end of the season to Dubai in the early part of the season and she also captured her first Grand Slam during that time.

As well as that, she has only lost one set in the third round of the US Open against Ekaterina Alexandrova showing her sheer dominance. She will look to snap the next streak as she is yet to win a Quarter-Final in Beijing.

The key against Keys was a confident serving display as she hit 72 percent and won 84% of her first serve points losing only five in the match. She saved both break points she faced too to go unbroken in the match. But perhaps a harder test is incoming.

Now Karolina Muchova awaits who has been utterly sublime again. She has similar to Sabalenka barely lost a game no mind a set in recent times and eased past Cristina Bucsa on Wednesday morning. She won through 6-2, 6-0 and only lost to Jessica Pegula at the US Open when she was known to be under the weather.

A player who has spent the last few months on the comeback trail, she is not only back firing but she is also healthy which is the main thing. Often battling with injuries which have curtailed her undoubted potential, she is finally showing what she can do again.
