Paula Badosa had a simple message as she was criticised alongside
Karolina Muchova for withdrawing from the women's doubles at the
China Open hours after their opening win.
Badosa faced backlash as she withdrew from the women's doubles after winning their first round match. They saw off Irina Khromacheva an Anna Danilina in the first round of the China Open. However, they withdrew before the second.
Khromacheva was furious at the WTA for this continuing to happen and said they withdrew as they 'don't care about doubles'. She said there is no respect for doubles players on the WTA Tour which got praise from some quarters.
But faced with responding, Badosa was asked about it on social media and clapped back. "People judge without fully understanding anything. It's brutal," she wrote (translated from Spanish).
Muchova for instance is still involved. She will take on Cristina Bucsa in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 tournament. But Badosa has been criticised for taking this route previously. She withdrew from doubles four times this year including in Stuttgart and Washington.
She also has entered mixed doubles many times and mainly due to Tsitsipas not wanting to play has not concluded her tournament. But it seems like there was a rhyme and reason for it if you believe Badosa.
