Jessica Pegula has lauded Elina Svitolina for being better than before after becoming a mother in their latest of multiple battles this summer going the way of the American who now faces Madison Keys in the Last 16 of the US Open.
It was a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win for the home favourite who has been juggling not only being top billing on the show courts in singles, but also playing both doubles still and of course being among the top names in them also.
But she noticed that in Svitolina, she is a player who has found a new lease of life and almost hit the reset button after giving birth to her daughter, Skai with Pegula lauding her as a different player than before. Also pointing to Caroline Wozniacki as another example, albeit Svitolina didn't have three years away.
"The last few times I played her before she had her baby, she seemed like a little run down, I feel like. So, I don't know, maybe her getting pregnant was good timing for her to go back and reset. I don't know, sometimes that's what you need. That's what players do," spoke Pegula.
"I think we've seen that with Wozniacki and several other girls that had babies. It's a nice reset," she continued.
On what she noticed in particular which some have picked up on, the aggression has been there which wasn't before in the game of Svitolina, which can be attributed to her new coach, but also a new perspective on life potentially.
"Definitely playing a little bit more aggressive, but at the same time still her game. It makes it really tough because you're not quite sure what to do as much maybe as before," added Pegula.
