Garbine Muguruza was almost perfect on Wednesday as she breezed past
Caroline Garcia, booking her spot in the round of 16 at the Western & Southern Open.
The eighth seed hit seven aces and won 30 of 36 points on her first serve to secure the 6-4 6-3 victory, saving both break points faced in the match. The Spaniard looked focused and determined, reminiscent of the form that saw her reach the Australian Open final last year.
Garcia was constantly under pressure as she struggled to hold serve, winning only 59% of points on her serve. The Frenchwoman surrendered serve on three occasions, which was enough for her opponent to run away with the match.
Muguruza will face reigning French Open champion
Barbora Krejcikova in the round of 16, as the ninth seed defeated
Dayana Yastremska in straight sets earlier in the day.
