World number one
Aryna Sabalenka has revealed that she is not
angry with her coaching staff in the
US Open semifinal.
The 25-year-old defeated America’s Madison Keys in the
last-four contest of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year with a score
of 0-6, 7-6, 7-6.
During that match, Sabalenka was seen shouting at her
coaching staff and a fan, during an interaction on social media, asked why was
she mad at her team.
In response to that, Sabalenka stated that she was not mad
at all and that she was just taking out her frustration.
"I wasn’t [angry at my team],” she wrote. “We spoke
before and we agreed that if I need to let it out I can do it, nothing personal.”
Victory in that contest was short-lived for Sabalenka who
ended up suffering a heartbreaking defeat in the final to another American — Coco
Gauff — with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Despite that result, Sabalenka managed to register her place
at the top in the WTA rankings, largely because of her consistent performances
throughout the year.
The Minsk-born played
in the semifinal or beyond in each of the Grand Slams in 2023. She also won the
Australian Open by beating Elena Rybakina in the final with a score of 4–6,
6–3, 6–4.
