Naomi Osaka remains a title favorite as she brushed past Shelby Rogers to reach her second US Open semifinal.

The fourth seed needed just 79 minutes to put away her American opponent, cruising through their quarterfinal bout with a 6-3 6-4 victory.
Rogers had been on the best run of her career, breezing through the first three rounds without dropping a set. The World No.93 upset sixth seed Petra Kvitova in the fourth round, ensuring she reached her second Grand Slam quarterfinal (Roland Garros 2016). However, she faced a determined Osaka, who has been the player of the tournament thus far.
Osaka relied on her powerful groundstrokes and precision to throttle her opponent, easily holding her service games. She obtained the vital break to go up 4-2, before serving out the first set.
The Japanese superstar's serve played a huge role in her victory, as she hit seven aces and won 83% of points on her first serve. In addition to winning all her points at the net, she committed only eight unforced errors during the entire match. Rogers was forced to go for broke, leading to her committing 28 errors. The World No.9 obtained the crucial break early in the second set and never looked back, sealing her victory after Rogers netted another forehand.
Having won the entire event the last time she reached the semifinals at Flushing Meadows (2018), Osaka next faces Jennifer Brady. The American eased past Yulia Putintseva in her quarterfinal bout, and has been one of the standout players on Tour since the season resumed.
