However, she faced a determined Osaka, who has been the player of the tournament thus far.

Osaka relied on her powerful groundstrokes and precision to throttle her opponent, easily holding her service games. She obtained the vital break to go up 4-2, before serving out the first set.

The Japanese superstar's serve played a huge role in her victory, as she hit seven aces and won 83% of points on her first serve.
