Day Five of the Cymbiotika Guadalajara Open AKRON gets underway today. Here is our preview of the WTA 1000 event, including the likes of Caroline Garcia, Victoria Azarenka, and Maria Sakkari taking to the court for the quarter-finals.

At the Estadio Akron de Tenis, third seed Garcia and tenth seed Azarenka will battle it out for a place in the semi-finals. They have faced each other four times before, with the French player leading their head-to-head 3-1. However, Azarenka won their most recent match at the 2020 Cincinnati Open.

The Belarusian is yet to drop a set at the tournament, having ousted Robin Montgomery, Dayana Yastremska, and seventh seed Veronika Kudermetova with relative ease. Garcia had more difficulty in her first-round match against Aliaskandra Sasnovich where she had to fight back from a set down. Nevertheless, she went on to defeat Hailey Baptiste in straight sets.

Second seed Sakkari will also feature on the main court where she will face Emiliana Arango. The World No. 180 has seen a lot of success at this tournament. She opened her campaign with a straight-sets win over eleventh seed Anastasia Potapova before pulling off a similar feat against 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens. She then downed Taylor Townsend in three sets to set up her first clash with Sakkari.

Meanwhile, the World No. 8 has been progressing solidly so far, looking for redemption after she crashed out of the US Open in the first round earlier this month. She defeated Storm Hunter 6-2, 6-4, and Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-2.

Starting out the day on the main court will be the clash between Leylah Fernandez and Sofia Kenin. The American leads their head-to-head 1-0, having ousted the Canadian at the 2020 US Open. Kenin can also take encouragement from her run to the final of the San Diego Open last week.

Moreover, Martina Trevisan will face Caroline Dolehide. Trevisan achieved a surprise victory over top seed Ons Jabeur in the previous round, ousting the World No. 5 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-3. Dolehide leads their head-to-head 1-0, but like many other players on the court today, they haven't faced each other in several years.
