A lot of people from the US and the UK tuned in to watch the Women's
US Open final between Raducanu and Fernandez. The draw and appeal of the young tennis superstars drew more people in compared to the men's final the following day. It's astonishing considering that the men's final usually drew a lot more viewers than the women's final in the past decade.
ESPN released its numbers saying that 3,4 million watched the WTA final compared to only 2,7 for the ATP final. That number is even more impressive considering that Djokovic was trying to accomplish something that has not been done since 1969. In all fairness, the Men's final competed with the NFL which is by far the most popular sport in American which might have caused the smaller number.
Either way, the start appeal of Emma Raducanu was clearly visible in her native UK where she drew an audience of 9,2 million on Channel 4. Amazon Prime holds exclusive rights to US Open in the UK however the company agreed to share the rights with Channel 4 due to the significance of the match. It proved a success with over 9 million people tuning in.
Seems like a new era of WTA is beginning and Raducanu and Fernandez might well be the faces of it.
