13-2 in singles matches played this year! Jelena Ostapenko in ridiculous form as she claims the WTA 500 Linz title, the 2nd in 2024 and the 8th in her career 6-2 6-3 vs. Ekaterina Alexandrova Ends this week as #3 in the WTA Race
The champion has been confirmed at Upper Austria Ladies Linz with Jelena Ostapenko sealing the deal in Austria to continue her ridiculous form so far this season. She thrashed Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2, 6-3 to claim a second title of the season.
After winning Adelaide earlier in the season, she has claimed multiple titles for the first time since 2017 when she won at Roland Garros. It is an eighth title in the career of the Latvian who aside from the first set against Clara Tauson has not dropped a set all week.
She dropped out of the top 10 after the Australian Open, but with Karolina Muchova not playing at the moment being less than 100 points behind, she could return after Abu Dhabi which she will play next week.
In defeating Alexandrova, she swept aside the Russian in just over an hour. Both players took dominant holds of serve before Ostapenko broke in the opening set to go 3-1 up. She took a second and decisive break of serve to claim the set despite having to use three set points to do it. The power precision game of Ostapenko was on full effect and after saving a break point in the second set, she took the only break to go 3-1 up. She had a match point at 5-2 before she finally got over the line on her second match point to seal the title.
