Pam Shriver claims that
Sloane Stephens still has the ability to go on a deep run at the 2023
US Open, which begins on August 28th.
The 2017 US Open champion has had a subpar season, winning only 22 of her 48 matches on Tour this year. However, Shriver believes Stephens still has the desire to make a deep run at the last Grand Slam of the season.
Stephens can make a deep run at a Major as the fire is still there
"I have a feeling that deep inside, she still burns with it," wrote Shriver in a column for The Tennis Channel. "I still think she can have a great run at a major."
Furthermore, Shriver praised the former World No.3 for her activity on the WTA Players' Council, a task that Stephens herself has labeled as tedious but rewarding.
"She’s a leader for women’s tennis," added Shriver. "She has a rich, full complicated life."
