Former World No.1,
Simona Halep is expected to lose her ranking entirely in the next two months due to inactivity alone with ongoing doping issues preventing a return to the tour.
Halep was provisionally suspended back in October by ITIA for a failed drug test during the 2022 US Open. This news came as a shock and she has attempted to fight it ever since.
Albeit with multiple hearings being cancelled and a second failed test due to irregularities in her biological passport, she has been left in limbo.
Currently ranked No.55, she has one tournament in particular to fall off with Halep being defending champion at the Canadian Open.
But with that second failed test, that limbo will likely continue for a while yet with her initial case going through CAS appearing at London District Court and awaiting a verdict.
She accused the ITIA of 'harassment' and preventing her from restarting her career on purpose. For reference, Mikael Ymer banned yesterday (Tuesday) played on for around 18 months after initially missing three tests while Halep hasn't played since prior to the US Open.
This is where most of the points will fall off with 30 from Washington, 900 from Canadian Open, 60 from Cincinnati and 10 from US Open which come to precisely the 1,000 points she currently holds.
Only solace for Halep is that like Jennifer Brady, Elina Svitolina and even Caroline Wozniacki, she will likely get wildcards or use a protected ranking due to her status if she does return to the tour in the distant future.
It also flags up an ongoing issue with the tour with multiple players banned either for supposedly taking substances or missed tests, with Daniil Medvedev even admitting to coming close to missing a third test which would've seen him banned.
