French tennis star
Caroline Garcia has expressed frustration
over the schedule of the
Madrid Open. The ongoing WTA 1000 event in the Spanish
capital is moving closer towards its conclusion where remaining players are battling
it out to secure the ultimate prize.
Just like a lot of WTA 1000 events, the Madrid Open has been
organised over a period of nearly two weeks with the competition starting from
the round of 128. Garcia, who won the 2022 WTA Finals, saw her journey in the competition
come to an early end as she lost in the round of 32 to Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in
straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
The former world number
four was recently quoted in a report where she expressed unhappiness over a schedule
which is spanned over two weeks and stated that it was ‘frustrating’ to be in
the event for a week and just play two matches, something she was not able to ‘resonate’.
“We've been here for a week and we've played two matches,” said the current
world number 24. It moves slowly, you
don't do much, you wait... This format is a bit frustrating. Some might
resonate with it, but I can’t.”
