At the
Cleveland Open,
Tatjana Maria is successfully through to the Last 16 after completing her opening tie against Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
Maria sat on 66% win percentage on her first serve, 7/12 on break points and will now face Anhelina Kalinina tomorrow for a spot in the Quarter-Finals.
As ever with WTA tennis, it was a lopsided match with Maria steaming through both sets she won and the opposite for Gracheva in the set that she won.
She comes off a superb week in Barranquilla winning a WTA 125k tournament after also reaching the Quarter-Finals in Warsaw earlier this summer. She defeated Fiona Ferro in that final not playing in either Cincinnati or Montreal in the run-up to the US Open and picking the smaller tournaments instead.
Also through are
Veronika Kudermetova who won in three sets over Nadia Podoroska, as well as
Lin Zhu and Xinyu Wang with the latter taking out Jasmine Paolini.
Caroline Garcia and Leylah Fernandez are both in action later this evening in, Mirra Andreeva finally plays tomorrow against Sloane Stephens.
