The 2020 BNP Paribas Open in
Indian Wells is one of the biggest sporting events to be canceled due to
coronavirus. The statement regarding the cancelation says: “We are very disappointed that the tournament will not take place, but the health and safety of the local community, fans, players, volunteers, sponsors, employees, vendors, and everyone involved with the event is of paramount importance,” said Tournament Director Tommy Haas. “We are prepared to hold the tournament on another date and will explore options.”
Soon after ATP and WTA players found out about the event being canceled, they reacted on their social media accounts.
Rafael Nadal wrote: "You probably all heard the news. Indian Wells canceled. We are here and still deciding what’s next. So sad for all that is happening around the world with this situation. Hopefully soon solutions from the authorities. Stay all well and safe."
Also, Denis Shapovalov reacted, but just with a short "I'm shook".
Semifinalist from Lyon, Alisson Van Uytvanck seemed to be really angry about the tournament in Indian Wells being canceled as she started her message with letter "Wtf?" On the other hand, Elina Svitolina thinks about people who already paid for the tickets and accommodation in Indian Wells. Later, she also commented on her post with a hashtag #StaySafe.
