Former world number one
Ashleigh Barty believes that it is
hard to keep a place in the top-10 which is why there are not many Australians
in there.
The 27-year-old is a woman of many talents as she has not only
played tennis at the highest level but has also played cricket for the Big Bash
League franchise Brisbane Heat Women.
Barty, who ended her career after winning three Grand Slams
in her career, was quoted in a report where she stated the difficulties in maintaining
a spot in the top 10.
"There aren't many Australians in the Top 100 and
that's something we're working on,” she said. “To stay at the top you always
have to play at your level higher, you must have continuity for 52 weeks with a
specific program and only then can you maintain your position at the top.
“I think it's very exciting for women's tennis, all this
creates hunger, passion and motivation in all the tennis players who want to be
the best and aim to become number one.
There are many young people who are working, even in
Australia, and want to grow and develop their game."
The Queensland-born also suggested that she is trying to
understand the point of view of former world number one Iga Swiatek who stated that
it was hard for her to compete at the end of the season.
"It takes time to understand how they fit in and how it
is possible to grow with their game,” she said. " I'm excited to follow my
countrywomen, and other tennis players too, and I want to see where they can be
in five or ten years.
“The game has adapted to modernity and developed. Compared
to the past, the Top-10 is more competitive and they are all great tennis
players. Women are different game mixes and always manage to surprise."
