The Czech duo of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova were quite formidable during their time together as a doubles team, but their surprise split was not a mutual decision, according to Krejcikova.
Krejcikova and Siniakova won several titles together, some of which were Grand Slams. However, they began to struggle as a team, before eventually breaking up. The duo began focusing on their singles careers, which saw Krejcikova win her maiden singles Grand Slam title at the 2021 French Open.
With both ladies improving in their singles careers, it was Siniakova who suggested they go their separate ways. Krejcikova admitted she would like to keep playing doubles with her fellow Czech teammate, with the hopes of them reuniting for the Olympic Games in Paris this summer.
"Last year when we were splitting and she told me she wanted to go in a different direction, we brought up this topic [of competing at the Olympics]," revealed Krejcikova. "This decision [to split] was Katerina’s, not really mine – I would love to play with her and I would love to compete at the Olympics with her.
"So, it’s more on her to actually approach me and to talk to me about it, to see how she feels. I’m very open to reuniting and playing the Olympics together, but it’s more on her right now."
