🏆 Reese Brantmeier: remember the name! 🏆 The American claimed the U16 title at the #WTAFutureStars event in Shenzhen with a straight-set win over Anabelle Xu.
Top-ranked college player has sued the NCAA after missing out on nearly $50,000 prize money due to rules.
Reese Brantmeier of the North Carolina Tar Heels College participated in the US Open qualifying round in 2021 after receiving a wildcard entry to play in the qualifiers of the mega-event.
In that competition, she won the first qualifying round against Olga Govortsova of Belarus in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
She then went on to beat Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia in the second round of the qualifiers with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
However, in the third and final round of the qualifiers, she ended up on the losing side to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-3.
After reaching that far, the now 19-year-old received $49,000 in prize money but she decided not to keep it to maintain her college ability.
However, as per the latest report, Brantmeier has now filed a lawsuit against the NCAA. The decision was taken as the NIL rules in the college stopped athletes such as wrestlers, tennis players, swimmers, skiers and others from accepting prize money from any professional events if they went on to win the contest.
