The inaugural Top Seed Open promises to be a great spectacle. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, some of the biggest WTA stars gathered in Lexington for an event that is categorized just as International and has a total financial commitment of $225,500. Now, we know the draw for this new tournament that will be played from 10th - 16th August 2020.
Serena Williams is the first-seeded player at the tournament. Aryna Sabalenka is no. 2 in Lexington, but Williams' side is much spicier this time. The 23-time Grand Slam champion can meet her sister Venus or Victoria Azarenka in the second round. In the 3rd round, Serena can face the seventh-seeded Sloane Stephens. This creates the 'quarter of the death' as there are 33 Grand Slam titles distributed between 4 out of 8 players.
The rest of the draw is also interesting. Amana Anisimova is the fourth-seeded and will take on Cici Bellis in the first round. Another American youngster, Coco Gauff will be facing a qualifier in the first round and can possibly meet the second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka already in the second round.
