Venus Williams responded to a Tweet about her three
gold medals with her sister
Serena Williams at the Olympics.
Williams’ sisters not only excelled in singles, where
each one managed to be world No. 1 and be one of the main dominators of the
tour in the last 25 years. They also established themselves as one of the best
partners in doubles. In Sydney 2000 they got their first gold medal
in doubles at the Olympic Games.
It wouldn’t be the last, since they also won the
category in Beijing 2008 and London 2012, becoming the first doubles couple to
have won the gold medal 3 times.
The 7-time Grand Slam
champion shared the post and said: “"Let the good
times roll,"
Venus played her last
match on January 4th at the
ASB Classic, where she was beat by Chinese
Lin Zhu
in 3-sets. In the first round she eliminated her compatriot Katie Volynets,
showing that she still can compete on tour. After the tournament, she had to
withdrawn from the
Australian Open due to a hamstring injury. Williams has not
given a date for her return to the courts, because she wants to wait until she
feels confident with her physical performance:
"I
think my next step is to get to to a place where I feel confident in my body
again I definitely need to build confidence in it again and I'll get there, god
willing. I'll take you guys on this journey with me, back to health, back to
tennis hopefully. Hopefully sooner than later, I don't know exactly when but
I'll let you know" the American said.
