Coco Gauff was once again involved in a thrilling and intense battle on court. She produced an incredible comeback from near defeat to triumph after a dramatic end to the match at Wimbledon. In the midst of it, there was one serve that came perilously close to taking out one of the ball boys which also got a reaction out of Christopher Eubanks.
The American's serving is not known as one of her standout traits on the court. She has had issues with it over her career which has seen at times a cascade of double faults being produced. Gavin MacMillan came in around the US Open last year in a desperate bid to eradicate the problems.
While she has improved, the odd slip can occur. One of her second serves went in a completely opposing direction to where she in fact was aiming, flying towards the Umpire's chair and very nearly hitting one of the ball boys casually lingering below.
Gauff shook it off quite quickly and proceeded with the match. Following the win, she was shown Eubanks reaction to the wayward serve. The former professional tennis player seemed to think that it was going in his direction. Jokingly, Gauff admitted that she could have aimed for him. "I mean probably unconsciously for sure," she laughed.
Eubanks also had his say. "I thought she was coming to me I'm sitting over there trying to do my job trying to watch good tennis and she's coming right at me the poor ball kids." Gauff touched on her intentions behind the serve. "I was trying to go big kick wide, missed the ball, but you know what? It's okay."
While that serve has taken a bit of attention, overall Gauff produced some good numbers on serve. Winning 78% of first serve points, her second was a little lower with 50% but she seemed pleased with her overall showing, clapping back at the critics online.
"Honestly, I mean really after that happened. I was just like I know that people on Twitter are gonna be and be like before Queen but guys I had 12 aces I think or 10 aces today five doubles which is really good for me or for anyone and yeah, you guys can't say anything anymore."

Gauff battles through another tight match

Any other player could have been leaving SW19 as a loser if they were in the same position as Gauff. The two-time Grand Slam champion has a thing for getting into arduous battles on court, but crucially coming out on top in them. Time and time again she will be pinned against the wall, but manages to wrangle herself out of that precarious position.
She was the big favourite to take down Sierra following her two wins already against her this year. The most recent one in Rome was also a three-set clash which saw Gauff 3-0 down in the deciding set before missing a match point while attempting to serve it out, getting it done on her opponents instead.
Gauff was hoping to confirm a fifth round three spot at Wimbledon with no fuss, following in the footsteps of her 6-2, 6-1 in against Tamara Korpatsch. It started well as she took the first set following her winning the final three games of the set.

The momentum instantly flipped as Sierra stormed back into contention, breaking to love enroute to a 3-0 lead with no more break points being created in that set. The Argentine got level and a third set was needed on No.1 Court.
It was Sierra who seized the initiative. Following a brace of break points being saved, she broke the Gauff serve and backed it up with a convincing hold to go 5-3 ahead. She would have the chance to serve it out and was two points away from reaching back-to-back third rounds in Grand Slam tournaments. However, her dreams were dented when Gauff broke with her only break point and after two comfortable holds a tiebreak was called upon.
Once more, Gauff fell behind. Sierra led 7-4 and had looked to be making a run to the finishing line. Nevertheless, Gauff kept her head up and focused on the task at hand. She would not lose a point for the rest of the match, ticking off six on the spin to complete an amazing comeback win. This sets up an all-American tie against Claire Liu for a spot in the last-16.
