Karolina Muchova accidentally hit Marketa Vondrousova with a ball during their first doubles match at the National Bank Canadian Open (Omnium Banque Nationale) in Montreal, after Coco Gauff did the same to doubles partner Jessica Pegula the day before.
Tennis fans reacted with amusement to the video of Gauff accidentally serving the ball at her doubles partner Pegula in their match against Aldila Sutjiadi and Miyu Kato yesterday at the WTA 1000 event.
Moreover, some have pointed out that it wasn't the only doubles match to feature an accident such as this, as a similar situation occurred on Monday, August 7, during Muchova and Vondrousova's match against Anna Danilina and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
The incident occurred during a rally, as Muchova attempted to hit the ball over the net from the back of the court.
However, she accidentally hit it right into the path of Vondrousova, causing the player to stumble slightly and evoking a collective gasp from the crowd.
However, the 2023 Wimbledon champion didn't seem too affected by the hit, and the two Czech women went on to win their match in three sets, achieving an impressive comeback after not winning a single game in their first set to emerge victorious 0-6, 6-4, 10-4.
Both Muchova and Vondrousova have also made a successful start in the singles event in Canada. Ninth seed Vondrousova won her opening match against Mayar Sherif and fourteenth seed Muchova won her first match against Anastasia Potapova.
Muchova will go on to face Sorana Cirstea in her next round, and Vondrousova will face former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki. Their next doubles match will see them play against American Desirae Krawczyk and Dutch player Demi Schuurs.
