The
qualifiers for the
WTA Finals attended the gala and were asked who their dream
celebrity plus one would be.
On Friday,
October 27, the traditional gala that marks the beginning of the WTA Finals was
held, featuring the participation of the eight qualified tennis players who
will take part in their last tournament of the year, led by favorites Aryna
Sabalenka and
Iga Swiatek.
The
athletes walked the red carpet to enter the event, and after taking
photographs, they took the opportunity to answer some questions. Among them,
they were asked who their dream celebrity plus one would be at this event.
Movie and
music stars were mentioned by the tennis players. The first was Jessica Pegula,
who chose British singer Dua Lipa, while Maria Sakkari opted for Superman's
leading man, Henry Cavill.
"Who
would I walk the red carpet with? I’m a big Dua Lipa fan so that would be
really fun," Pegula said.
"I
hope my boyfriend doesn’t get pissed but he knows Henry Cavill would be my
go-to," Maria Sakkari claimed.
On the
other hand,
Coco Gauff and Ons Jabeur opted for two movie stars: Zendaya and
Jessica Alba, respectively.
"Zendaya.
Ooh actually I don’t know, she looks so good she might make me look terrible.
No Zendaya, I mean if I look bad, she’ll look good for the both of us,"
Coco Gauff revealed.
"I
would choose Jessica Alba," Jabeur shared.
Aryna
Sabalenka chose the former football player David Beckham.
"Well
why not, David Beckham," she said.
The 4-time
Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek was a bit more indecisive, as she listed
several options for her ideal plus one.
"I
mean, it’s hard to choose but obviously for music industry, Taylor Swift or
Chris Martin. From actors, I would say, I would love to meet Julia Roberts and
maybe Harrison Ford," she said.
Finally,
the Wimbledon champions of 2022 and 2023, Elena Rybakina and Marketa
Vondrousova, chose not to mention any celebrities and instead preferred to name
their loved ones.
"I’m
happy to be hear with my sister so for now it’s her," Rybakina stated.
"I
mean I have everyone I need here with me so it’s pretty special,"
Vondrousova said.
