Mirra Andreeva managed to win through her match against Anna Bondar in the fourth round of the
Madrid Open albeit she did have a mid match explosion of emotion and continues to struggle with that part of her game majorly.
Andreeva had a heated exchange with her team and then broke down in tears after
winning the match. The Russian had a strong start to the 2026 season winning Adelaide and having a good run in Dubai. She also won in Linz and has carried that onto a tournament that saw her gain her start as a 15-year-old.
She is now about to turn 19 which falls always when she is in Madrid so will always be a special place for her but while she is a player who continues to grow it also comes with a price.
"I’m not a champion. I’m not a champion. I will lose. I will lose," Mirra Andreeva said to her team berating herself after she lost the opening set and Bondar was looking potentially set to take a shock win.
Andreeva immediately bursts into tears
But this also continued post match as she immediately burst into tears after winning through and continues to show flaws to her armour.
Some may say it is good to show emotion but often Andreeva is very few and far between, it is either rock steady or it is fraught with issues where the Russian becomes semi petulant on the court.
She starts taking it out on herself and her team the fact she isn't winning and this has happened again albeit she is through to the latter stages in Madrid.
