Netflix has released the trailer for their latest sport documentary, entitled "Naomi Osaka", which is of course based on the life of the four-time Grand Slam champion.
The video streaming service has been working with the Japanese star to produce a documentary series that focuses on her life and tennis career, particularly on how she became an overnight sensation after winning her first Grand Slam at the 2018 US Open.
"The series is about Naomi's journey, within a snapshot of her life," director Garrett Bradley, whose film 'Time' was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, said in a press release. "But it's also about life's purpose, about personal worth, about the courage that it takes to allow one's personal values to inform their work and vice versa.
"More than anything, I'd hope people can feel the power of empathy and to feel encouraged to take chances in life, perhaps especially in moments where the stakes can feel impossibly high."
Osaka has taken a hiatus from competitive tennis, after she withdrew from the French Open citing mental health issues. The 23-year old opted to skip Wimbledon, but will make her return to tennis at the Tokyo Olympic Games this summer.
Narrated by Osaka herself, the three-part documentary series will air on July 16th.
