Aryna Sabalenka was thrashed 0-6, 3-6 by Elena Rybakina in the final of the 2024 Brisbane International on Sunday morning as the Kazakh ace set her stall out for the new season against the current World Number Two with an emphatic win.
Sabalenka hilariously blamed her team post-match for the loss saying they did a bad job and it was all their fault. Always known for bringing out the best of both, the post-match speeches continued to bring the comedic element when Rybakina spoke.
Gracious as ever, Rybakina thanked and congratulated Sabalenka and her team and hoped that they would meet in a bumper clash at the Australian Open. But received a hilarious quick reply from Sabalenka.
"Congrats Aryna for a great week.. Hopefully we meet in Melbourne… of course congrats to your team," said Rybakina to her rival. To which Sabalenka responded: "No congrats" in reference to her sarcastic criticism of her coaches and team in the defeat.
Rybakina then replied admonishing the sarcastic retort: “No matter what Aryna says, you’re doing a really good job." For Sabalenka all eyes now will be on the Australian Open, while Rybakina is currently slated to play Adelaide next week but whether she does remains to be seen with Jessica Pegula and Rybakina currently top seeds.
