Caroline Wozniacki has revealed the details of a discussion she had with her father about coming back to tennis at the National Bank Canadian Open (Omnium Banque Nationale) in Montreal.
Former world No. 1 Wozniacki had been out of the sport for three years before her opening-round match at the WTA 1000 event. The Dane made a strong return, winning against Australia's Kimberly Birrell in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
The 33-year-old originally retired after the 2020 Australian Open and welcomed her first child Olivia in June 2021 with her husband, former NBA basketball player David Lee. The couple then had a second child, James, who was born in October 2022.

Wozniacki then announced her comeback to tennis in a first-person essay in Vogue magazine, revealing that her first tournament would be in Canada.
Speaking at her post-match press conference at the tournament, the 2018 Australian Open champion disclosed how her father Piotr Wozniacki reacted when she told him she planned on making a comeback to the sport.
Piotr coached his daughter throughout most of her initial career from 2007 to 2020, and his main advice to Caroline this time around was to ensure she was taking her return 'seriously'.
"He was, like, You sure? He was, like, Well, if you are sure, but, like, you've got to take it seriously. I just looked at him and go, When do I not take stuff seriously when I put my mind to it?" said Caroline.
She added that her father admitted this was true, before offering his support to her.
"He looked at me and said, Yeah, that's a good point. He goes, Okay, well, go work, see how your body keeps up, and then come back to me after that. He is, like, I'll be ready if you really need me," she added.
Wozniacki is now getting ready to face reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in her next match.
